Release Schedule and Annoucements

We usually roll out our major releases at the beginning of each month. Major releases usually include major product features, enhancements and bug fixes. In additional to our monthly major releases, we also roll out minor releases every Friday evening to address any urgent issues.

Both major and minor release notes will be published on this page.

Apr 15, 2025 release 

Enhancements & New Features

Application Tab: Enhanced Data Management – We’ve significantly improved the Application Tab within the Client Profile to provide more control and visibility over client data:

  • Comprehensive Property View: All properties are now displayed, with clear indicators highlighting any missing information, and you may directly add values for missing property.
  • Expandable Nested Properties: A new double downward arrow icon allows you to easily expand and view details for all nested properties.
  • Data Grid Entry Deletion: You can now directly delete entries within data grids on the Application Tab.
  • Standardized State Selection: The “State” field now features a consistent US states dropdown list for easier and more accurate data entry.
  • Consistent Iconography: The edit and cancel icons have been updated for a more unified and visually appealing experience.

Insurance Offers: Export to Excel

  • A new “Export to Excel” button has been added to the Insurance Offers section, enabling you to easily download the data grid to Microsoft Excel for further analysis or reporting.

Dynamic Intake Form: Enhanced Data Validation

  • We’ve implemented additional miscellaneous data validations within the Dynamic Intake Form. For example, the age of family members is now validated to ensure it is a positive number.

PDF Upload: Improved Progress Visibility

  • The PDF upload process now provides enhanced visibility into the upload progress. You will see detailed activity status updates, including the number of pages processed out of the total number of pages in the uploaded file. This improvement is particularly beneficial for large PDF files.

Bug Fixes

  • Critical Fix: PDF Upload / Extraction: We have resolved a critical issue affecting PDF upload and extraction. This fix, combined with the enhanced progress visibility mentioned above, will significantly improve your experience with uploading files.

  • Updated Guidelines: The Banner Life Underwriting Guidelines have been updated to the latest version (March 2025).

Enhancements / New Features

  • We have made a few enhancements for Xcela Dynamic Intake Form
    • Improved Branding: Company name and logo are now displayed within the intake form for enhanced user experience and brand recognition.
    • Intelligent Data Prefill: The form now automatically populates fields with existing client data, streamlining the intake process and reducing data entry time.
    • Expanded Data Collection: Added comprehensive questions, including travel information, to capture more detailed client profiles.
  • Carrier-Specific Underwriting: Replaced standardized underwriting classes with carrier-specific classifications for more accurate and relevant assessments.
  • Comprehensive Underwriting Summary: Introduced an “Overall Underwriting” column in Insurance Offers Table that provides a clear summary of the client’s underwriting profile, including best, typical, and worst-case class scenarios.
  • Dynamic PDF Table Formatting: PDF downloads now feature automatically adjusted column widths, ensuring optimal readability regardless of data length.

Bug Fixes

  • PDF Compatibility: Resolved an issue that prevented downloaded Profile PDFs from displaying correctly in Adobe PDF Reader.

Relaxed Insurance Offer Refresh Requirements: Removed the requirement for complete information to refresh Insurance Offers, allowing for more flexible data input.

          Mar 21, 2025 release 

          This release introduces a new framework for extensible schema and also added a few key features about intake form, profile data visualization and editing, several enhancements on HIPAA, download, and enriched underwriting classification support, plus a few bug fixes.

          • Enhancements and New Features
            • (Experimental) Extensible Schema Framework – We’ve introduced a new, flexible data schema framework to better support the evolving requirements of life insurance applications. This framework enables the following new features:
              • Xcela Dynamic Intake Form – Create comprehensive web inquiry forms for clients with over 60 detailed medical questionnaires. The form dynamically adjusts questions based on client responses, providing a streamlined and efficient intake process.
              • Enhanced Client Data Visualization (Tree-View) –Experience a redesigned user interface with a hierarchical, tree-like view of client data profiles. Easily expand and collapse data sections for convenient navigation and detailed information access. 
              • In-Place Data Editing – Directly edit client profile data within the tree-view interface. Simply click the edit icon to make immediate changes.
              • Expanded PDF Download Options – Generate comprehensive client profile PDFs that now include Electronic Health Record (EHR) data such as allergies, vitals, and encounters, in addition to medications and medical impairment history.

              • Default HIPAA Form Configuration: Customize default selections for HIPAA forms to streamline your workflow.

            • The header title “Financial UW – Age & Amount Requirements” has been renamed to “Age & Face Amount Requirements” for clarity.

              Mar 5, 2025 release 

              This release introduces a new feature with Sarah and also several other enhancements and bug fixes for Sarah and HIPAA, Intake form, etc.

              • Enhancements / New Features

                • Automated Client Creation with AI Email Assistant (Sarah): Sarah can now automatically create client profiles within the Xceal app using information gathered from email conversations. This streamlines client management by eliminating manual data entry.
                • Improved HIPAA Request Clarity: HIPAA email messages now include both the company name and agent name, providing clients with clearer context for the request.
                • Updated Underwriting Guidelines: Added “Security Mutual” to the underwriting guidelines library.

                Bug Fixes

                • AI Email Assistant (Sarah) Stability Improvements:
                  • Resolved issues causing instability during long processing tasks and when handling extensive carrier lists.
                  • Enhanced error messages for improved clarity.
                • Intake Form Data Synchronization: Fixed a bug that prevented the Date of Birth (DOB), Gender, and Social Security Number (SSN) entered in the intake form from syncing to the client’s edit page.
                • DOB Date Picker Correction: Resolved an issue causing unexpected behavior with the DOB date picker.
                • Intake Form “Page Not Found” Error: Fixed a bug that resulted in a “Page Not Found” error when clients reopened the intake form link immediately after submission.

                      Feb 19, 2025 patch release 

                      This release includes several bug fixes for HIPAA related issues.

                      • Bug Fixes
                        • Resolved an issue where e-signed Xcela forms were not enabling the retrieval of RxCheck/EHR data. 
                        • Fixed a problem where Xcela HIPAA forms e-signed through customer’s own DocuSign were not being detected in some cases. 
                        • Corrected an error that prevented signed HIPAA forms from being returned when sent on behalf of another agent. 
                        • Addressed an issue where the sender’s name in the CC list was incorrectly displayed as “{user.Firstname} {user.Lastname}” instead of the actual user’s name.

                                  Feb 14, 2025 release 

                                  This release includes several enhancements and bug fixes.

                                  New Features:

                                  • Deep Linking for Notifications: Implemented deep linking for URLs within notification emails. Clicking a notification link now navigates the user directly to the corresponding client record and automatically expands the relevant activity, displaying the details related to the notification.

                                  Bug Fixes:

                                  • Cobranding Logo Display: Resolved an issue where the cobranding company logo was not displayed unless a custom configuration was present. Your company logo now displays correctly in Xcela HIPAA form.
                                  • RxCheck Activity Status: Corrected the logic for updating the RxCheck activity status. The status is now correctly marked as “extracted” upon completion, even if no results are found.
                                  • Data Grid Sorting: Modified the default sorting behavior of data grids. Data is now displayed in its original order by default, preserving the order in which it was received or entered.

                                  Changes:

                                  • Product Updates Page: The Product Updates page has been moved from an iFrame popup to a new tab for improved usability and accessibility.

                                            Feb 5, 2025 release 

                                            This release includes a refreshed user interface, key enhancements to workflow and usability, and important bug fixes.

                                            New Features & Enhancements:

                                            • Modernized User Interface: Experience a completely redesigned look and feel with our new UI V2, featuring an AI-inspired theme for a more intuitive and engaging experience.
                                            • Streamlined Activity Tracking: Introducing a chain-linked display of your activity list, providing a clear and connected view of your workflow.
                                            • Improved Data Navigation: Pagination has been added to data grids and the insurance offers table, making it easier to browse and manage large datasets.
                                            • Optimized Screen Space: Maximize your workspace by easily hiding and showing the client list using the icon in the top-left corner. The “About Xcela” and “Product Updates” links have been relocated to the top-right menu (under your initials).
                                            • Branding Options: The Xcela logo is now displayed, and you have the option to include your company logo in the top-right corner for personalized branding.
                                            • Enhanced File Uploads: A new file upload widget displays the upload progress percentage, giving you better visibility and control.
                                            • AI Email Assistant with PDF Support: Our AI Email Assistant (Sarah) is now even more helpful! You can now attach a PDF containing client information when sending emails.
                                            • Expanded Carrier Support for Financial Underwriting: We’ve enriched support for Financial UW Age & Amount Requirements to include the following carriers:

                                            Bug Fixes:

                                            • Date of Birth Entry: Resolved the issue where the date of birth entry was shifted by one day.
                                            • EHR Activity Status: Corrected the issue where the EHR activity status was sometimes not properly marked as completed.

                                                      Jan 28, 2025 release 

                                                      New Features

                                                      • HIPAA Co-Branding: Your company logo can now be displayed on the Xcela HIPAA form. To enable this feature, please contact support@xcela.ai.
                                                      • Include BGA/IMO Agency in HIPAA: When initiating an HIPAA request for your client, you can now select a BGA/IMO agency to be included in the authorization scope. Both your company name and the BGA/IMO name will be visible to clients in the HIPAA form (under OTHER1 and OTHER-2). Please contact support@xcela.ai for setup.

                                                      Enhancements

                                                      • Summary/Cover Letter Update Time: The last update time for the Summary and Cover Letter is now displayed, providing greater clarity on when these documents were generated.
                                                      • Birthday and Age in Application Data: Birthday information entered on the Add/Edit Client page, along with the calculated age, is now included in application data points and can be viewed in the Application Tab.

                                                      Bug Fixes

                                                      • Wet Signature Detection: An issue with wet signature detection in the Xcela HIPAA form has been fixed. This applies to situations where the signature field label is highlighted with a marker, reducing visibility.
                                                      • HIPAA Activity Status Refresh: An issue causing the HIPAA activity status to refresh incorrectly right after creation has been resolved.

                                                      Changes

                                                      • New Xcela HIPAA Form Design: A new version of the Xcela HIPAA form features a redesigned format and layout for improved usability.
                                                      • Carrier Limit for Sarah: The maximum number of carriers that Sarah can handle has been limited to 10.
                                                      • Activity Button Subtitles: Subtitles for activity buttons have been updated for better clarity. For example, the Upload button now displays “PDF only, up to 10 MB”.

                                                              • Email Notifications: Receive email notifications for key events, including EHR data retrieval and processing completion, HIPAA signature, and Intake Form submission.
                                                              • Multi-HIPAA e-Signing: Clients can now e-sign multiple HIPAA forms simultaneously through DocuSign.
                                                              • Revamped User Interface: Enjoy a completely redesigned UI with a tabbed view, providing more screen space for individual data sets and improved navigation between different data points.
                                                              • (Experimental) Application Summary: A new “Summary” feature/tab provides a concise overview of medical data, family medical history, and substance use.

                                                              • Insurance Offer Refresh: Insurance offers now refresh for carriers in the displayed order.
                                                              • Build/Financial Underwriting Header Updates: The following headers have been renamed for improved clarity:
                                                                • “Build Classification” is now “Build Underwriting.”

                                                                    This release introduces several enhancements and bug fixes mainly on AI Email Assistant, Intake Form, and EHR Retrieval.

                                                                    • Enhanced AI Email Assistant (Sarah): We’ve expanded Sarah’s capabilities with the addition of Build/Financial Underwriting Classification. This complements the existing Medical Risk Assessment and Next Steps classifications, providing more comprehensive email analysis.
                                                                    • Streamlined Intake Forms: To simplify the intake process and reduce manual data entry for clients, forms are now automatically pre-filled with known information about the client.

                                                                        This release introduces several enhancements and bug fixes to improve your experience with Xcela.

                                                                        New Features (Experimental)

                                                                        • Financial Classification: We’re introducing a new experimental feature called Financial Classification. This feature allows you to classify applicants financially, with required supplemental information to support underwriting decisions. Financial Classification is currently supported for John Hancock, Lincoln Financial, and Prudential, with more carriers coming soon.

                                                                        • Wet Signature HIPAA: We’ve made viewing and managing wet signature HIPAA documents easier than ever:
                                                                          • Signature Highlighting: In activity summary, you can now conveniently view signed HIPPA pages with a highlighted rectangle to easily locate signatures.

                                                                        • Insurance Offers Refresh: Resolved an issue where refreshed Insurance Offers might display “TBD” if the user navigated away during the refresh.
                                                                        • Data Extraction: Fixed an issue causing a blank summarization of extracted data to appear for activities in some cases.
                                                                        • HIPAA Uploads: Resolved a bug that incorrectly marked upload activities as “extraction failed” when the uploaded file contained only HIPAA data.
                                                                        • EHR Extraction: Fixed an issue where missing information occurred in EHR data extraction for certain nested data cases.
                                                                        • Build Underwriting Icons: Removed unnecessary thumbs-up/down and information icons when the Build Underwriting value is “N/A”.

                                                                          • Selective Status Refresh: Only the expanded activity’s status will refresh, minimizing distractions.
                                                                          • Improved Expansion/Collapse Icons: We’ve updated the icons to be more intuitive and provide clearer directional cues.

                                                                          • Corrected the “About Xcela” link URL.
                                                                          • Resolved an issue causing Insurance Offers errors due to token size limits.
                                                                          • Fixed an issue preventing client selection on mobile devices.
                                                                          • Resolved a bug where only one medication was included in profile downloads.
                                                                          • Fixed an issue preventing EHR data extraction when no medical problems were present.
                                                                          • Improved visibility of action buttons on the mobile app.

With HIPAA authorization, you can now directly access and retrieve your applicant’s EHR data, streamlining your underwriting process.
                                                                              • Build Underwriting Classification (Experimental) We’re excited to announce the experimental launch of Build Underwriting Classification support.                                                                             • Customizable Web Intake Form (Experimental): Streamline the initial client information gathering process with our new web intake form builder. This feature allows you to create a custom form with specific fields to collect the exact information you need from potential clients. Here are some highlights:
                                                                              • Easy to configure: Build forms simply with a json file to define the structure and fields you need.
                                                                              • Client-friendly: Send the form via email for clients to complete at their convenience. Clients can save drafts and resume filling out the form later.

                                                                            • Simplified Gender Selection: The “Gender” field on the Add/Edit Client page has been updated to a user-friendly dropdown menu with options for Male, Female, and Unisex.
                                                                            • Optional Email Field: You can now leave the email field blank when creating or editing a client. It’s required only until you request HIPAA authorization or order an RxCheck.

                                                                                • This provides greater flexibility for managing your clients’ HIPAA authorizations alongside existing DocuSign e-signature options.

                                                                              • Sorting Numeric Fields: We’ve fixed an issue that caused incorrect sorting behavior for numeric fields like “Drug Score”

                                                                                                              This release focuses on enhancing data accuracy and user control:

                                                                                                              • Enhanced PDF Data Extraction: We’ve improved the accuracy of data extracted from inquiry PDFs. This is still an ongoing effort and we will continue to refine results in future releases.
                                                                                                              • Expanded User Profile Management: You can now edit your profile information, including contact details and agent/broker status. As we are launching our product officially, to ensure compliance, please update your attestation in your profile. You can find the Profile link by clicking your initials at the right upper corner.

                                                                                                              This release mainly simplifies the client data input process.

                                                                                                              1. Simplified Client Data Input

                                                                                                              The client data input process has been streamlined. Data points are now automatically applied and displayed on the right side of the screen as soon as they are extracted. You can still provide feedback by using the thumbs-up or thumbs-down icons. The latest confirmed data will always be reflected on the right side of the UI.

                                                                                                              2. Insurance Offers History Detail

                                                                                                              A new “i” icon has been added to the Insurance Offers History pop-up. Clicking this icon will display a snapshot of the data captured at the time the offer was generated.

                                                                                                              3. Restricted App Access

                                                                                                              App access has been limited to within the United States. Users outside the country will be blocked from accessing the app.

                                                                                                              This release brings two key improvements to client management and activity tracking:

                                                                                                              Enhanced Client Data Tracking: We’ve improved how client information is tracked. Now, whenever you create or edit a client, the system will record this as an activity. Additionally, the information you enter or modify (e.g., name, sex, email) will be automatically captured as confirmed data points. This provides a more comprehensive and accurate record of client activity.

                                                                                                              Localized Activity Time with Time Zones: Activity timestamps will now display in the local time zone, including the abbreviation (e.g., [Client Name] created on 2024-07-15 at 18:00 PDT).

                                                                                                                In this release, we have made a couple user experience enhancements for client data collection and Insurance Offers.

                                                                                                                  Our weekly minor release just went live! In the release, we have included an experimental* feature – file upload and several bug fixes.

                                                                                                                  As a user, you will be able to uploaded a client inquiry form to your client activity. Our AI agents will extract clients information from the inquiry form into data points that are relevant to your application. You will have a choice to approve or reject the extracted data points. Once approved and saved, you run the application against your underwriting guides to get the indicative decisions. Please note that client Inquiry forms must be in PDF format.
