We usually roll out our major releases at the beginning of each month. Major releases usually include major product features, enhancements and bug fixes. In additional to our monthly major releases, we also roll out minor releases every Friday evening to address any urgent issues.

This update focuses on deepening data insights within the Summary view, streamlining the issue-reporting workflow, and introducing a more robust API architecture for applicant management.

  • Expanded Summary Insights: The Summary page now displays more results (previously limited to 4), providing a more comprehensive and accurate trending chart.
  • Enhanced Overview & Provenance: We’ve introduced bullet-styled overviews and enabled provenance information within the summary to improve data traceability.
  • Real-Time Progress Tracking: Users can now view live status updates for ongoing processes, providing better visibility into system tasks.

⚠️ Process Changes

  • Insurance Offers Workflow: To ensure data accuracy, users are now required to generate a summary prior to running “Insurance Offers.”
  • HIPAA Compliance Update: Effective May 8, 2026, we have updated the Xcela HIPAA documentation with revised terms. Please review the updated compliance section.

  • File Access: Resolved a critical issue where the download link returned a “No URL provided” error.
  • Summary Stability: Fixed an “An error occurred” bug on the Summary page triggered by specific data edge cases.

      [Experimental] Provenance Tracking: Total Data Transparency

      We’re introducing Provenance, a new way to verify the “source of truth” for your data. This feature bridges the gap between a data point and its origin.

      • Trace Every Detail: Instantly see which uploaded document, specific page number, or user action generated the information in a Client Profile.

      • Seamless Interaction: Desktop users can hover or click a field to see its source, while mobile users can access details with a simple tap.

    Refined Client List: We’ve tweaked the display of Age and Gender in your client lists to make them easier to read at a glance. It’s a small change that makes a big difference in daily navigation.

            • API Improvements: process_insurance_documents() - We’ve upgraded our document processing pipeline to handle larger workloads more efficiently:
              • Remote File Uploads: The API now supports S3 presigned URLs, allowing you to process files stored remotely without manual uploads.
              • Real-time Progress Webhooks: For large files requiring asynchronous processing, you can now receive webhook notifications. This ensures your system stays updated on processing status without the need for constant polling.
            • Underwriting Logic: When a client’s tobacco status is unknown, the system will now proactively display “what-if” underwriting classifications based on both potential statuses, providing a more comprehensive risk assessment.

            🛠️ Bug Fixes

            • EHR Submission Clarity: Eliminated the misleading “No Data Available” message that previously appeared immediately after an EHR request was submitted. The UI now correctly reflects the pending state.

            • UI Polish: Fixed several formatting inconsistencies within the Summary and Cover Letter tabs to ensure a cleaner, more professional look for generated reports.

            🚀 What’s New

            New EHR Service Provider: MIB

            We have successfully migrated our Electronic Health Record (HR) services from Clareto to MIB.

            • Action Required: Please use the new MIB button for all EHR orders effective immediately.

            • Why the change? The Clareto EHR service is being deprecated on December 31, 2025. Switching to MIB now ensures uninterrupted service and data continuity.

                • Benefit: Handle larger documents, like lengthy medical reports or complex policies, without needing to compress them.
              • New Card View for Insurance Offers: Compare insurance options more easily than ever.
                • We’ve introduced a Card View UI option, allowing you to view and compare offers from two different carriers side-by-side for convenient evaluation.
              • Self-Service PDF Retry: No more waiting!
                • You can now retry extraction yourself when a PDF upload fails, getting you the data you need faster.
              • Explicit “Unknown” Status: Our assessment fields are now clearer.

              This release introduces a powerful new way to view and interact with underwriting decisions, designed to give you instant clarity and unprecedented detail on every case.

              Summary Tab – We have merged the “Favorable Factors” and “Health Promoting Activities” sections into a single, comprehensive section. This makes it easier and faster to identify all positive client attributes in one place.

              Oct 20, 2025 release

              New Features & Enhancements

              • Smarter Underwriting Defaults – The system default for a client’s smoker status is now “Unknown” if no information is entered about use of tobacco. This change increases underwriting accuracy by preventing accidental classification. (Note: This default is configurable upon request.)

                 

              • API Enhancement: Cover Letter Inclusion – The process_insurance_documents() API response now includes the Cover Letter. This is only applicable if you are using API.

                 

              • Clearer EHR/RxCheck Alerts – Alert messages for ordering EHR/RxCheck have been improved.When required fields are missing, the alert now clearly names the specific fields you need to fill, speeding up your order process.

              🛠️ Bug Fixes & Stability Improvements

              • Sarah Reply Issue Fixed: We resolved an issue where our AI assistant, Sarah, would sometimes fail to reply when messages included multi-company logo images. Sarah will now respond correctly every time.

              We are excited to announce an update that includes significant enhancements to the Summary tab, quality-of-life improvements for administrators, and important bug fixes.

              Revamped Summary Tab with Risk Visualization

              The Summary tab now features an interactive Donut Chart that visually breaks down high-risk items across different segments (e.g., Medical Conditions, Medications). – Interactive Drill-Down: Hover over any segment to see the number of high-risk items. Click a segment to zoom into a detailed sub-chart for a closer look.

              We’ve upgraded the Summary UI for viewing Medical Conditions, Medications, and Lab Results. These items now display in clear, organized tables. Specifically, the Key & Other Lab Results table now prominently displays the most recent result alongside up to three past results for easier trending and comparison.

              Admin Client Management

              Organization Administrators can now delete any client within their organization, regardless of who originally created or “owned” the client record.

              Streamlined HIPAA Attestation

              Once a signature is attested for HIPAA, the corresponding workflow buttons (RxCheck, EHR, ScriptCheck, and LabPiQture) will now be immediately enabled, removing any delay or a need to refresh the Activities page.

              🛠️ Bug Fixes & Stability Improvements

              • Resolved the “extraction failed” error that occasionally occurred when uploading an APS PDF.
              • Fixed an issue where the “Attest signature for HIPAA” button would sometimes incorrectly trigger a false request for HIPAA.
              • Corrected an error that would occur when attempting to delete a client. We have also added a message to show the results of client deletion.

              • Improved Stability: We’ve enhanced the system’s ability to handle large user-uploaded files, ensuring a more stable and efficient process.

              • Data Accuracy: An issue causing data to go missing during ExamOne data retrieval has been fixed. All your data should now be accurately retrieved.

This new capability allows life carriers, brokers, and advisors to access LabPiQture® and ScriptCheck® directly within the Xcela platform at the point of intake. This integration is designed to:

              • Manual HIPAA Attestation We have added a new option to manually attest to a HIPAA signature. This feature is a valuable fallback for cases where our AI model is unable to detect a signature on an uploaded HIPAA form, typically due to a low-resolution or poor-quality scan.
                While our model is highly accurate, this manual option ensures a seamless workflow, allowing you to proceed with ordering services like RxCheck and EHR without interruption.

              • Improved Smoker Classification We have enhanced the accuracy of our smoker classification model by incorporating carrier-specific rules. For example, the system can now correctly classify a client who occasionally uses a limited Zyn pouch as Non-Tobacco, aligning with specific guidelines from carriers like John Hancock. This improvement ensures greater precision and consistency in underwriting outcomes.

              We’re thrilled to announce a major update to the Xcela app, featuring a completely redesigned user interface, powerful new administrative tools, and several key enhancements. This release focuses on improving usability, streamlining workflows, and giving you more control over your data.

              • New Features & Enhancements

                • Completely Revamped User Interface: We’ve given the Xcela app a fresh new look! The new design is cleaner, more intuitive, and features the Clients List as your new landing page, putting your most important information front and center.
                • Enhanced Clients List: Quickly find the clients you need with new search and sorting functionality by first name.
                • Introducing the Admin Role: A new “Admin” user role is now available. Admin users have enhanced privileges, including the ability to:
                  • View all clients within the organization, including archived ones.
                  • Manage and share access to any client with other users in the organization.

                We’ve also addressed several issues to make your experience smoother and more reliable:

                • Fixed HIPAA Form Display: The bounding box for skewed HIPAA form images now draws properly.
                • Corrected Date Fields: Resolved an issue where date fields were not displaying correctly upon download.
                • Improved Summary Tab: All key lab results will now correctly appear in the “Key Lab Results” section of the Summary Tab.
                • Refined Summary Output: The “Likely Treatments” section has been removed from the Summary, Cover Letter, and Insurance Offers to reduce noise and focus on more relevant information.
                • Fixed Overall Underwriting Value: Resolved an issue where “Overall Underwriting” was incorrectly shown as “N/A.”
                • Email Handling Fix: Fixed a bug that caused issues when processing email messages with text split across multiple lines.

              Automated Lab Result Extraction: We’ve introduced the capability to automatically extract Key Lab Results and Other Lab Results from your uploaded APS files, streamlining your data processing, saving you time and improving accuracy for underwriting.

              Revamped Summary including Lab Results and also Trend Analysis: 

              • The enhanced summary introduces a clearer, at-a-glance view of lab results.
              • Normal/Abnormal Indicators: Easily see if results are normal or abnormal with intuitive green, yellow, and red circles.

              • No More Grid Flickering: We’ve fixed that annoying intermittent flickering issue you might have seen on data grids.
              • Accurate Clareto EHR Notifications: The premature completion notification for Clareto EHR retrievals is now a thing of the past.
              • Complete Diabetes Information: Diabetes types (I or II) will now always display correctly.
              • Precise Underwriting Results: We’ve corrected an issue where Build Underwriting provided incorrect results (Decline/Missing Information) for Lincoln, Pacific Life, and Prudential in some specific cases.
              • Correct Age Display: The issue with age defaulting to 55 when DOB was unavailable has been resolved.

                Jun 11, 2025 release 

                We’re excited to announce our latest product update, which includes powerful new self-service tools and important bug fixes. These enhancements are designed to give you more control, save you time, and improve your overall experience.


                ✨ New Features & Enhancements

                1. Self-Service V1 to V2 Client Migration

                You can now instantly migrate clients from the V1 schema to the V2 schema, unlocking a full suite of advanced features.

                • Why it matters: V2 clients benefit from a hierarchical profile view, full in-place editing capabilities, the Intake Form feature, and more.
                • How to migrate a client:
                  1. In your client list, click the three-dot menu (…) next to the name of a V1 client.
                  2. Select the migration option. The process takes only a few seconds.
                  3. Reload the page. The client’s profile will now display the “Client Profile” tab, confirming the successful migration to V2.

                2. Ability to Delete User Activities

                Ever uploaded the wrong file or made an edit by mistake? You can now easily delete certain activity types to keep your client records accurate. This applies to activities like file uploads, client edits, and text entries.

                • How to delete an activity: Click the new three-dot menu (…) next to the timestamp of the activity you wish to remove.
                • Please Note: For data integrity, this feature is not available for activities that have dependencies, such as HIPAA consents, Intake Forms, RxChecks, or EHR data pulls.

                3. Password Resets for First-Time Users

                New users whose temporary password has expired can now request a new one without contacting support.

                • How it works: Simply click the “First time user with expired password?” link on the login page to receive a new temporary password and get started.

                🛠️ Bug Fixes

                We have also resolved several issues to improve system stability and accuracy:

                • Fixed a system error that sometimes caused data extraction to fail during an APS upload.
                • Corrected an issue with Insurance Offers for clients created by “Sarah” where the smoker status was missing.
                • Resolved improper underwriting declines for certain carriers within Insurance Offers.
                • Corrected an error that caused the client’s age to be displayed incorrectly in the Summary tab.

                      May 21, 2025 release 

                      In this release, we’ve prioritized enhancing product stability by resolving several critical issues to improve your overall experience.

                      Here’s a breakdown of the key fixes:

                      • Large APS File Extraction: We’ve resolved an issue that caused extraction failures when uploading APS files with a significant number of pages.
                      • Insurance Offer Display: Errors preventing insurance offers from displaying correctly for some carriers have been fixed.
                      • Sarah Email Functionality: We’ve addressed multiple issues where Sarah was not responding to certain emails with attachments and was occasionally returning “Error occurred in processing email” messages.
                      • EHR Button Error (400): The “Error 400” that appeared when clicking the EHR button, specifically when a HIPAA form was re-sent and the previous one voided, has been eliminated.
                      • EHR Order Processing: EHR orders will now process correctly, even when a full state name is entered instead of the 2-letter code for a client.
                      • Client Data Summary Refresh: The summary refresh no longer fails due to excessively large client data, ensuring smoother experience.

                          May 7, 2025 release 

                          In this release, we’ve addressed the following issues to enhance stability and usability:

                          • Xcela HIPAA Form: The “Date of Birth” field is now correctly included for client signatures, ensuring all necessary information is present.
                          • Insurance Offer Exports: You can now successfully open downloaded Excel files for Insurance Offers.
                          • Client Creation:
                            • The “Date of Birth” field on the “Create Client” page will no longer incorrectly default to the current date.
                            • The issue causing valid “Date of Birth” entries to be flagged as “Invalid Date” has been resolved.
                          • EHR Retrieval Status:The EHR retrieval activity status now accurately reflects when the search is complete, no longer showing “Extracting” indefinitely.
                          • HIPAA Authorization: The internal error causing HIPAA Authorization failures on the Xcela server has been fixed.

                                                                                                                                          The client data input process has been streamlined. Data points are now automatically applied and displayed on the right side of the screen as soon as they are extracted. You can still provide feedback by using the thumbs-up or thumbs-down icons. The latest confirmed data will always be reflected on the right side of the UI.

                                                                                                                                          A new “i” icon has been added to the Insurance Offers History pop-up. Clicking this icon will display a snapshot of the data captured at the time the offer was generated.

Now, whenever you create or edit a client, the system will record this as an activity.                                                                                                                                               As a user, you will be able to uploaded a client inquiry form to your client activity. Our AI agents will extract clients information from the inquiry form into data points that are relevant to your application. You will have a choice to approve or reject the extracted data points. Once approved and saved, you run the application against your underwriting guides to get the indicative decisions. Please note that client Inquiry forms must be in PDF format.

                                                                                                                                                1. Self-Service V1 to V2 Client Migration

                                                                                                                                                You can now instantly migrate clients from the V1 schema to the V2 schema, unlocking a full suite of advanced features.

                                                                                                                                                • Why it matters: V2 clients benefit from a hierarchical profile view, full in-place editing capabilities, the Intake Form feature, and more.
                                                                                                                                                • How to migrate a client:
                                                                                                                                                  1. In your client list, click the three-dot menu (…) next to the name of a V1 client.
                                                                                                                                                  2. Select the migration option. The process takes only a few seconds.
                                                                                                                                                  3. Reload the page. The client’s profile will now display the “Client Profile” tab, confirming the successful migration to V2.

                                                                                                                                                2. Ability to Delete User Activities

                                                                                                                                                Ever uploaded the wrong file or made an edit by mistake? You can now easily delete certain activity types to keep your client records accurate. This applies to activities like file uploads, client edits, and text entries.

                                                                                                                                                • How to delete an activity: Click the new three-dot menu (…) next to the timestamp of the activity you wish to remove.
                                                                                                                                                • Please Note: For data integrity, this feature is not available for activities that have dependencies, such as HIPAA consents, Intake Forms, RxChecks, or EHR data pulls.

                                                                                                                                                3. Password Resets for First-Time Users

                                                                                                                                                New users whose temporary password has expired can now request a new one without contacting support.
